Unless you are ashamed of your company, you want to always make sure to identify its name in your installations. This article will show you the different areas where you need to fill-in your company name.
The first area is in the Project Settings dialog for your project. Now, I happen to have a Basic MSI project open in the IDE and this is what I see. If you have another project type opened, it may look slightly different.
Notice that you should enter your company name in the Author field.
The next area is the Application Information page of the Project Assistant. Here is a look at that:
When you add your name to the Specify your company name field, you are actually setting the COMPANY_NAME string in the String Table. You should also fill-in the other fields on this page.
The next place is in the General Information view of the Installation Designer. Here is a screenshot of that:
Notice the areas that are circled in red. All of these have to do with your product and company. Make sure you fill-in all of these fields.
The next area is the String Table. Here is a screenshot of that:
Now, if you’ve done all the other things I have mentioned, this field will already be filled-in. Still, it doesn’t hurt to check.
The final area is in the Releases view. By default, in a Basic MSI project, a release will be placed under the Project Assistant node or folder. However, you can rename this folder. Take at look at this:
Make sure you fill-in the Product Name, Product Version, Subject, and Title. Also, if you want to change the bootstrapper name from Setup to a different name, you do it in the Setup File Name field.
